Our Story

WPCA was set up in 2002 following research into the needs of local residents through door-to-door surveys and interviews with service providers (GPs, Schools, Probation Officers, etc).  Our beneficiaries are children, teenagers, young adults, particularly those who are not in education, employment or training (NEETS), lone parents, unemployed people, families and individuals struggling with the impact of deprivation and poverty.  In 2007 we raised the capital to build a community facility – the Micah Centre – on land adjacent to Willowfield Church at the bottom of the Woodstock Road, in the heart of inner-city east Belfast.  We provide a variety of programmes including After-School programmes, Kids Klub, volunteer programmes, work with NEETS, emergency food and utility help, sports/healthy lifestyle kids programmes, Family Support, CAP Debt Centre, youth projects, detached youth work (schools and local streets), outreach, lifestyle and self-esteem programmes.  We work with schools, police and local council who recognise the impact we have had, as does feedback from the hundreds of local residents who benefit weekly from WPCA’s programmes.
